Fairway and Tee Aerification Moved to May.
Rain in early April created wet enough conditions at both Walter Hall and Legion Memorial that the tee and fairway aerification had to be delayed These projects need to be done to ensure good turf growth and drainage through out the year. The actual days cannot be listed because work on these projects is very much dependant on weather.

Please be assured that these projects will have little effect on the playability of the courses during this time. Our Course Superintendents (Dennis Parsons at Walter Hall and Dale Bowers at Legion Memorial) take great care to minimize the effect that it will have on your rounds. For example: They will only aerify 1 or 2 fairways a day so that the work will only effect a very small part of your round at most and they can get the cores picked up and the hole playing back to normal that same day. We will allow free relief if your ball ends up sitting on one of the aerification holes until the holes fill in.

Professional Golf Management Students

Legion Memorial Golf Course and Walter Hall Golf Course are pleased to welcome Drew Zins and Curtis Lannen to the golf staff for the summer starting in late May. Drew will be at Legion Memorial starting by the 25th and Curtis Lannen will be at Walter Hall starting on the 20th. Drew is returning for his 2nd.

Both are currently students in the PGA sanctioned Professional Golf Management program at the University of Idaho. This is a program that the PGA and a handful of universities across the country have put together that students gain training towards a Bachelors degree in business directly related towards the golf industry and becoming PGA Members. Besides the standard business training they get at school, they have special classes and seminars related specifically to the golf industry and must intern each year at a PGA recognized golf facility. Many of you will recognize Drew, who will be returning for his 2nd internship with us and Curtis will be new to us in Everett. When they complete the program they will have a Bachelors degree in business and most the PGA requirement for Class A membership completed.

We are pleased to be a part of their training and experience and will benefit from there talents in many areas including: golf shop operations, Tournament operations and golf instruction. Please give them a warm Everett welcome when you see them!

Video Swing Analysis

Legion Memorial purchased and set up a video swing analysis system in the indoor hitting room. This system allows the instructor to video tape your golf swing and replay it through the computer on a video monitor. Then the instructor is able to analyze your swing with you in stop action and slow motion, compare it side by side with the swings and positions of Tour Professionals or other swings you have made. This is a great tool for the student to see themselves and find and understand the positions in their swings they are trying to improve. This system is available for instructors to use from both Legion Memorial and Walter Hall along with our outdoor practice areas and practice greens at both golf courses.

We are currently working on setting up an indoor hitting room with the video capability at Walter Hall and hope to have it ready by summer.

Many of you know and have taken or are taking golf instruction from Shayne Day and Derrold Thoen. We this year welcome the added expertise of new Walter Hall Golf Professional Bob Gelinas, who brings us years of experience, including having been a fulltime golf instructor and operator of an indoor golf instruction facility.

To set up a video lesson or any golf lesson, contact the golf shop or email any of our instructors.

The Joe Richer Golf Club – Junior Golf

The Joe Richer Junior Golf Club returns again this season beginning with the first of several after school spring events on Wednesday, April 29th. This program is entering it’s 11th season and open to junior golfers age 8 – 18. Named in honor of legendary Everett high school coach, Joe Richer, it is partially funded through a memorial foundation to help ensure that any Everett junior golfer that wants to play golf gets the opportunity, despite any financial need. The program runs monthly April through October and weekly while school is out in the summer. The club is divided into two distinct groups, The Players Club and Players in Training.

The Players Club for intermediate to advanced players and consists of fun and competitive events on the 18 hole golf course and one hour instructional clinics to tune their playing skills in a fun social atmosphere. A great opportunity to meet and play in organized golf events with other area junior golfers while improving their golf games.

Players in Training for new to intermediate level golfers and consists of one hour instructional clinics and play on our practice area three hole par 3 courses. The goal of the Players in Training is to build some solid basic skills and golf knowledge to prepare the golfer to move up into The Players Club.

The membership cost is only $30 and includes a USGA GHIN handicap and all the instruction. Players Club golf fees on play days are only $10 per round and 3 month junior passes are also available for only $125. If finances are a problem, The Joe Richer Foundation also offers scholarships where need is met.

Joe Richer Club Members may participate in any of The Premier Summer Jr. Golf Camps for $159 for the first camp and $129 for eqch additional camp.

Applications can be found at out golf shops or on our website at www.everettgolf.com.
